It's just a little ole' lie...

What is the harm in a little white lie? If you are doing it to protect someone’s feelings, is it really that big of a deal? Certainly with all of the other types of sins committed God is not concerned with little bitty a lie is He?
The answer is resoundingly YES! As a society we have allowed ourselves to believe that lying isn’t that big of a deal
anymore.
Today it is common place for parents to use their children in a lie, often times without even thinking about it. Consider when a salesperson calls and we say “tell them I’m not here.” Young people often commit lies of omission, as in not telling the whole story. When asked if they went somewhere they might say yes, without also including all the other places they went in between. No matter what kind of lie it is, a big one or a small one, in the eyes of God it is sinful.
One of the more philosophical questions of our time is “Is it ever right to lie?” The answer to that question is no. The Bible never gives an example of a lie that God approved of. Even in the instance of where a lie provided a positive outcome, such as
Rahab’s lie to protect the Israelite spy in Joshua 2, God never
condoned the lie.
Let’s consider what the bible does say about lying in the
following Scriptures:
Proverbs 12:22 “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are His delight.”
Ephesians 4:25 “Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.
Revelation 21:8 “But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, which is the second death.”

The scriptures clearly teach the idea of lying ever being ok, is in itself a lie. Let us all do our best, to always speak the truth in love.
