Worst Thing?

What is the worst thing you could ever do to someone? Now, I realize that is a morbid question, but it is one worthy of consideration. Your mind likely goes to murder, hating someone, or abuse of some kind. But do those things truly add up to he worst things you could do to someone? I suggest to you they do not. Those possibilities, while awful, are not the worst thing you could do to someone.

Without question, the worst thing you could do to someone is allow them to go into eternity without telling them about Jesus. As Christians, we have a huge responsibility to be ambassadors for Christ and part of that responsibility is to tell others about Him. Romans 10:17 tells us “So faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ” (ESV). You see, if a person is going to have faith which will hopefully lead to obedience, they must first hear! If they are going to hear, someone must tell them. That someone, is you and me!

Often times we allow ourselves to listen to Satan’s lies about why we “shouldn’t” or “can’t” tell others about Jesus. We use excuses such as “I don’t know enough” or “I don’t want to make it awkward between us.” Friends, these are just what I called them, excuses. Excuses are “reasons” we give for not following through with the responsibility we have been given. The Lord has told us to go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to every creature (Mark 16:15). This command includes our friends, families, co-workers, and others we come into contact with on a daily basis. The fact is, our excuses as to why we do not share Christ with others as we should are insufficient. What excuse could possibly be acceptable to the God who sent His Son to die for our sins? What excuse could possibly be acceptable to say to the Man who hung on a cross so we didn’t have to pay for our sins?

Friends, there are many terrible things we could do to people but the worst thing is not a physical act at all. The worst thing we could do to someone is withhold the information which has the power to save their eternal soul. May each of us strive each day to tell others about the saving One.
